Calories

Avoid caloric over compensation. During your race you may be burning anywhere from 600-900 total calories per hour, but you should only aim to take in 25-35% of that amount, mostly in carbohydrate. Most athletes can take in and process 200-250 calories an hour without suffering gastric distress. Dumping more calories into the system won't increase the amount you can process. That excess will lead to a sour stomach instead of an energy boost. – CTS
